Description:
Just minutes from downtown San Jose and adjacent to the Los Gatos creek and bike trail, this pedestrian-friendly
community sought to provide much needed housing while honoring venerable characters of the historic Del Monte
factory site. A series of interpretive signs throughout the community describe the original Del Monte water tower,
factory remnant walls and other factory artifacts and pay homage to the site’s history. The relocated can conveyor
structure from the original factory has been repurposed as entry portal and provides this neighborhood with a
sense of entry and logical main street. This main street terminates with a relocated factory saw-tooth structure
that serves as a pedestrian plaza across from the future San Carlos light rail station. These 3-story motorcourt
townhouses feature interior oriented garages and have been designed to maximize exterior views and provide 4
sided architecture to compliment the pedestrian experience. The architecture was designed to be reminiscent of
the original factory with brick facades and industrial detailing while providing livable, open floor plans.
