Blackwood Groves is small town living, updated for how people aspire to live today. Against the backdrop of the Bridger Range, this mixed use community features 17 different typologies, making it a slice of Bozeman, Montana that anyone can call home. KTGY provided architecture, planning and urban design for much of the site, and The Bungalows include some of our most luxurious designs. These for sale homes are set back on larger lots with attached, front-facing garages, delivering a classic single family feel with alpine flair and thoughtfully interconnected design that gives this community its singular character.
The client’s master plan establishes groups of neighborhoods which fan out around the village square and decrease in density as they reach the site’s edge. The Bungalows are on the more suburban side of this scale, but our design preserves a sense of connection by orienting to open space and trails. Each home has a mountain modern aesthetic, featuring steeply pitched roofs, fiber cement panels and standing seam metal roofs; standout features include bay windows, dark metal trim and accents. Blackwood Groves is successful because the client’s dedication to a strong sense of place tells a story that we can carry through the design. Their goal was to create a community, and the willingness to respect design, detail, and the resident experience, is what makes neighborhoods thrive.
