Blackwood Groves is a picturesque, planned Montana community — an updated vision of the ideal small town. KTGY provided architecture, planning and urban design for much of this 12-acre mixed use site nestled against the mountains in Bozeman. The Porches were our first for sale product in this community, and their design benefits from some of the cottage court influence of The Cottages, but on larger, more secluded footprints. This collection is named for the covered porches given a prominent place in front of each home that open out to shared, green spaces.
Side courtyards give every homeowner their exclusive space, but living rooms are pushed to the front of the floorplan; a move that extends social space from the porch to the interior entertaining areas. Alleys and rear-facing garages give these homes clean front facades and make them all feel a little bit bigger on the inside. These designs are perfect for the homeowner who wants a balance between cottage charm and a suburban living experience. The Porches are, of course, long on charm with their wraparound covered porches and earthy material expression. They feature stonework, board and batten siding, bay windows and a few contemporary accents like dark metal shutters and matching standing seam roofs. The Porches feature some of the community’s most varied aesthetics, and their personality shines through in designs that make them uniquely attractive to home buyers of all kinds.
